Most Notable Unfinished Works of Musical History
October 15, 2011
There are some pieces of music that we have enjoyed for centuries that when you look at what the composer composed, you will find that some of them aren’t finished. Some of these have won awards and much fame. What are some of these that were never finished, but just as well?
Mozart had one piece that wasn’t done. This was called Requiem. Many just love it because they love the famous Mozart. However, we never know just why it wasn’t finished. There are many legends behind that answer. However, there are still other classical pieces that were never finished, but just as famous.
Gustav Mahler died before he could finish his Symphony number ten. There were sketches as to what this was supposed to sound like. There were also many drafts. However, when he died, he never got to finish this, but people still love it.
There are times when a composer might think it complete. However, after playing it for some people, they might find that they think there is more to it even when none exists. There are many pieces like that. They might take a bit of something and not the whole thing and we who have a tuned ear for fine music expect to hear more. We are sometimes disturbed when we don’t find that there is more. Other times we love what they have and accept it as the best work we have heard before.
We have even seen some that have been left unfinished, but was picked up by someone else to finish. This would be interesting as you have two different composers piecing together one work. You never know what sound could happen. However, it could sound very inspiring like the Turandot which was completed by Franco Alfano after the death of Giacomo Puccini.
